Shreveport Arrest Records and Louisiana Law

Louisiana law at LRS 44:3 makes initial arrest reports, booking records, summons, and citations public records. This applies to Shreveport arrests just as it does across the state. You do not need a reason to request these documents. The agency cannot require you to explain your purpose. They can charge copying fees, but not for the right to inspect.

The broader Louisiana Public Records Act at LRS 44:1 sets the baseline rules. Any adult can inspect or copy public records. Agencies must respond in three business days. Written denials must state the reason. If you think a record is wrongly withheld, you can pursue a mandamus action in district court to force disclosure.

Criminal history records from the Louisiana Criminal History database at the state police level are restricted under LRS 15:587 and not open for general public searches. You can request a copy of your own history under LRS 15:588 for around $46 through the Louisiana State Police. That is different from asking for a specific arrest report, which is open to the public under LRS 44:3.
